No, and we don't claim it is. Moz's Domain Authority is a specific proprietary metric only Moz calculates. This score is DataForSEO's domain rank — an independent, industry-standard equivalent that measures the same underlying thing (the strength and size of a domain's backlink profile) on the same familiar 0-100 scale. The two will usually be close but not identical, the same way Moz DA and Ahrefs DR often differ from each other.
There's no universal target — it depends entirely on what you're comparing against. A brand-new site with a score under 10 is completely normal. What matters more than the absolute number is your score relative to the sites you're actually competing with in search results, and whether your own score is trending up over time.
No search engine has ever confirmed using domain authority, from Moz, DataForSEO, or anyone else, as a ranking factor. It is a third-party composite signal, not something Google itself calculates. What it correlates with, a strong backlink profile, does genuinely help rankings, which is why the score is a useful proxy even though it is not the mechanism itself.
The only real lever is earning more, and better, backlinks over time, which means publishing content other sites actually want to reference: original research, genuinely useful guides, and destination or local-expertise content in your niche. There is no legitimate shortcut. Buying links or link farms can tank a domain rather than help it.
